question:-

What is Acid rain?

When fossil fuels like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, oxides of sulphur, oxides to nitrogen are burnt, they cause pollution. Then these all oxides escape and then settle at the atmosphere. When the oxides of sulphur react with nitrogen present in the atmosphere to form sulphuric acid. Oxides of nitrogen also reacts with water vapour present in the atmosphere to form nitric acid. These acids are very very strong. These acids make the rain acidic. The rainwater that comprises of large amount of dissolved acid in it in termed as acid rain.

damging \: effects \: of \: acid \: rain

  • Acid rain increases the acidity of soil. Increased acidity of soil affects plants and animals life. It acts as a medium for decreasing soil fertility.
  • It also destructs aquatic life as it makes water in rivers, lakes, ponds, oceans and seas acidic.
  • It destroys monuments and buildings. The Taj Mahal in Agra has turned off white or yellow just because of acid rain.
  • It also corrodes metallic objects such as railway bridges and gates.

\underline{\boxed{\bold\blue{Answer}}}

Acid rain is caused by the chemical reaction that begins when compound like shulfer dioxide, and nitrogen oxides are rleased into the air. Theses substance can rise very high into the atmosphere, where they mix and react with water, oxygen, and other chemicals to form more acedic pollutants knowns as Acid rain

[Hope this helps you.../]
