The various methods of reducing friction are as follows:

  • Lubricants like petroleum products can be used to reduce the friction between moving parts of machines. This helps to reduce wear-tear of the parts, also helps to reduce heat generation.

  • Ball-bearings can be used to reduce friction because rolling friction is less than sliding friction.

  • We can reduce the undulations and roughness between the two surfaces by polishing the surfaces with the sandpaper.

  • The shape of the material can be made streamlined such that it provides least resistance to flow of any fluid. This will also reduce the resistance.
