That's because it is its body part.

You cannot just pull it out from its shell.

Just think of yourself, if anyone pulled your heart out, would you be able to withstand the onset?

The skeleton system, veins, vessels, essentially everything is connected to the shell. So, it will not be able to get out of its husk, whilst it is breathing.
