Given \: r =  \sqrt{ u {}^{2} }+2ax \\ Take \: square \: on \: both \: sides \\ r {}^{2}  = (\sqrt{ u {}^{2} }+2ax ) {}^{2}  \\ r {}^{2}  = (\sqrt{ u {}^{2} }+2ax )  \\ u {}^{2}   +  2ax = r {}^{2}  \\ 2ax = r {}^{2} - u {}^{2}  \\ x =  \frac{r {}^{2} - u {}^{2} }{2a}
