Spring tide occur during the Full moon and the New Moon when the earth the moon and the sun are in the same straight line. Theircombined gravitational pull causes the greatest difference between the low and high tide.

Neap tide occurs when the sun moon and the earth are at 90 degree angle. The gravitational pull of sun and moon work in opposite direction. Hence the difference between the high tide and low tide is least.
