  • A real image and a virtual image are different forms of image. The main difference between real and virtual images lies in the way in which they are produced. A real image is formed when rays converge, whereas a virtual image occurs where rays only appear to diverge.

REAL IMAGE

• This image can be obtained on a screen.

Why? Because there light rays meet at a definite point.

• Image is always inverted.

• Real Images are formed by Concave mirror & Convex Lens.

VIRTUAL IMAGE

• This image cannot be obtained on a screen

Why? Because light rays don't actually intersect. (Just an imaginary intersection)

• Image is always erect.

• Virtual Images are formed by Plane mirror, Convex mirror & Concave lens.
