QUESTION:-

80 kg of an alloy of lead and tin contains 40% of tin. How much tin must be melted into it to raise the percentage of tin in the alloy to 60% ?

EXPLANATION:-

Quantity of tin in allow:-

→40/100×80

→32 kg

Let the tin to be melted be =x kg

Now weight of tin=32+x kg

Weight of allow =80+x kg

New percent can be :-

\bf\;\frac{32+x}{80+x} \times 100 %

So we can write:-

→(32+x)/(80+x)×100=60

→(32+x)/(80+x)=4/10

→320+10x=480+6x

→10x-6x=160

→x=40 kg

40 kg must be added
