Well, logically career is more important than anything else.

Everyone acquire some skills and are born with some talents. Pursuing a good career instills a sense of confidence in the individual.

It is better for our personal development as well as growth.

But besides all this I think there is ntg wrong in talking to people sometimes. By talking, I doesn't mean wasting time of course instead you can do it if you get some free time.

Though career is the topmost priority of the society and modern world of course!
