Answer:

1. Temporary sattlements were popular on the olden days because in that period no law and government are there

2. A gentle slope is characterised by contour lines spread widely apart because gentle slope has a lower slope angle.

3. Topographical maps use contour lines because elevation contour lines to show the shape of the Earth's surface

4. Dispersed settlements may have safety issues because they are far away from each other and they are not able to listen each other.

Hey Atlas ! Here is your solution:

1] Food :

Temporary settlements were popular in olden days because they didn't knew about much agricultural, so they depended upon some seasonal/endemic fruits and Animals. So as these factors were reduced, they had to go to other places to search for food .

Water : Some people lived in close to some seasonal and dry rivers. Hence, when the water level of the river ended, they went to other places and so on .

Climate :

As in olden days, people lived in cuccha houses, it was not able to protect them from heavy rain or cold winter, so they changed there places to dry and warmer places during second half of the year.

2] Contour lines are the line which join two or more points of the same elevation of the map.

A Contour line represents the change in value .

the distance between two Contour lines is inproportional to the slope (Only for slope) . The greater the slope, the lesser distance between Contour lines and vice versa.

That's the reason, on lesser slope, the distance between Contour lines will be greater.

3] What are topographical maps ?

The maps which are generally made on large scale and used to show the elevation of the land such as mountains, hills, steeps, Gorges, Plateus etc.

As they are related to elevation and depression of the land, Contour lines are the best means to shoe them, that's why, Topographical maps use Contour lines.

4] Yes, dispersed settlements may have safety issues.

Because, dispersed settlements are the settlements in which two or more homes are very far from each other, so if in case of some disasters, robbery, murder, or any other accident such as fire , etc. the people may not get help very early, from their neighbours. Also, in case of some needs, they have to go more farther.

Sometime, in case of emergency such as if some patient is in critical condition, they will not be able to get early help.
