Question

Swati spends ₹298 to buy pens and notebooks. Each notebook costs ₹29 and each pen cost ₹19.

If she bought a total of 12 items, how many pens and how many notebooks did she buy?

____________☘︎___________

Answer

____________☘︎___________

Given :--

  • Swati spends rupees 298 to buy pens n notebooks
  • Price of one pen = rupees 19
  • Price of one notebook = rupees 29
  • Total things bought = 12

To Find :--

Numbers of pens and notebooks bought by Swati

SOLUTION :--

Here , the number of pens and notebooks bought are not given.

So , Let the number of pens bought be x and the number of notebooks bought be y.

Now , with reference to the question the following Equations can be considered :

  1. (x+y) = 12 {Eq 1. }
  2. (19×x + 29×y) = 298. {Eq 2}

Now , multiply Eq 1 from 19 :

So as to get Eq 3;

(x×19) + (y×19) = 12×19

19x + 19y = 228 {Eq3}

Now , Subtract Eq 2 and Eq 3 :--

10y = 70

y = 7

So , we get the value of y as 7:

Hence , the number of notebooks bought is 7.

Now , numbers of pen(x) =>

(x) = No of total items - No of notebook

(x) = 12 - 7

x = 5

So , we get the value of x as 5 :

Hence , the number of pens bought is 5

\boxed{NOTE}

If we use the value of total items bought as 21 , then the criteria provided by you will be wrong. As 21 items cannot be bought in all at only overall coast of 298.

Therefore, plz remember if you try to increase the number of quantity of items , so the total price must also be increased.

Hence , to balance your question the total value has been changed from 21 to 12.
