 \textbf{Question:}

 \textbf{Simplify the following}

 \textbf{15 + y - y}

 \textbf{Answer:}

\green{15}

 \textbf{Explanation:}

 \textbf{Step 1:}

 \textbf{Since two opposite add up to zero, remove them from the expression}

 \textbf{Why?}

 \textbf{Learn why}

 \textbf{Why do two opposite add up to zero?}

The Inverse Property of Addition states that two opposite add up to 0

Since adding or subtarcting 0 doesn't change the value of the expression, we can just remove it

 \textbf{Step 1:}

 \textbf{Example:}

 \textbf{Since -5x is the opposite of 5x, their sum is 0}

 \textbf{7 + 5x + (-5x) = 7 + 0}

Adding 0 won't change the value, so we can remove it

{7 +5x + (- 5x) = 7}

So now you know let's go back to solving as i said since two opposite add up to zero, remove them from the expression

{15} \red{+ y - y}

\green{\textbf{15}}

 \textbf{Hope this helps!} :)
