Formation of Rainbow:
Rainbow is formed due to Dispersion of white light and production of spectrum.
- After a shower, some tiny raindrops remain suspended in the atmosphere.
- The water droplet refract and disperse the incident sunlight.
- The light undergoes internal reflection from water droplets and finally refract again when it comes out of the raindrop.
- Because of dispersion of light and internal reflection, different colours reach the observer's eye atdifferent angles and as a result, Rainbow is observed.
Extra information:
- We can see a rainbow even on a sunny day if we look at the sky flow water for to a water fountain with the sun behind us.
- A rainbow in always formed in a direction opposite to that of the sun. Therefore, an observer can see a rainbow only when his back is towards the sun.
- In an commonly observed rainbow, the inner arc is of violet colour and the outermost arc is of red colour as shown in the figure.(refer to attachment)

Answer:
HOW ARE RAINBOWS FORMED??
==>> A rainbow is a meteorological phenomenon that is caused by reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky.
==>> It takes the form of a multicoloured circular arc.
==>> Rainbows caused by sunlight always appear in the section of sky directly opposite the sun
==>> A rainbow is caused by sunlight and atmospheric conditions.
==>> Light enters a water droplet, slowing down and bending as it goes from air to denser water.
==>> The light reflects off the inside of the droplet, separating into its component wavelengths--or colors.
==>> When light exits the droplet, it makes a rainbow.
