2(x + 3) = 5(x - 1) - 7(x - 3) \\  \\ 2x  + 6 = 5x - 5 - 7x + 21 \\  \\ 2x - 5x + 7x =  - 5 + 21 - 6 \\  \\  - 4x = 10 \\  \\ x =  \frac{ - 4}{10}  =  \frac{ - 2}{5}
