Ten added is the same thing as +10. Twice a number means x2, x*2 or just double the particular number. Take note that the it say that +10 is after 2x. If something is added to twice the number, this means the number has been doubled before the addition of 10.

This is 2x+10=100

To make things easier, we -10 to take out the +10, or in other words, to negate it.

2x=90

We want the original number, so we halve a doubled number. That’s like saying 2*2÷2. We get the old number back.

x=90÷2

x=45.

• 2( x- 3 ) = 100

» x - 3 = 100/2

» x = 50 + 3

» x = 53
