A fish swimming at a constant speed of 0.5 m/s suddenly notices a shark appear behind it. 5 seconds later, the fish swimming in the same direction at a speed of 2.5 m/s. Calculate the fish’s acceleration.

Answer:

v0 =0.5m/s

v= 2.5m/s

t= 5s

find a

v= at + v0

2.5m/sec

a(5s)+0.5m/sec

so a = 0.4m/sec²

time= 5 sec

Initial velocity ( as of the fish) = 0.5 m/s

Final velocity ( as of the shark) = 2.5 m/s

To find:

Acceleration.

Acceleration =

 \frac{v - u}{t}

(here v is final velocity, u is initial velocity and t is time)

 \frac{2.5 - 0.5}{5}

 {0.4m \: per \: second}^{2}

Hence, The fish's acceleration is 0.4 m/s².
