THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY

☞Thermal conductivity is defined as the measure of a material’s ability to conduct heat. It is denoted by K

Formula of thermal conductivity

K = QL/A(ΔT)t

SI unit of thermal conductivity

K = W/mK or J/smK

CGS unit of thermal conductivity

K = erg/scmK

EXTRA POINTS:

  • The inverse of thermal conductivity is thermal resistivity.

  • Order of thermal conductivity Ag > Cu > Au > Al

  • For Ag thermal conductivity = 410 W/mK (Maximum value)

  • For an ideal or perfect insulator k = 0

  • Dimensional formula M^1L^1T^{-3}\theta^{-1} Here Θ is temperature in kelvin.
