Hiii friend,

=> X²-2X-8

=> X²-4X+2X-8

=> X(X-4) +2(X-4)

=> (X-4) (X+2)

=> (X-4) = 0 OR (X+2) = 0

=> X = 4 or X = -2

Heya!!

←_←Here's your answer friend→_→,

x² - 2x - 8 = 0

Therefore, x² - 4x + 2x -8 = 0

we get, by splitting the middle term

x ( x - 4) + 2 (x - 4) = 0

==> (x - 4)(x + 2)

==> x = 4 or x = -2

Hope it helps you : )
