x^2 -2x + 9x -18

x( x-2) + 9( x-2)

( x+9) ( x-2)

We have to, probably, factorize it.

x ^ 2 + 7x - 18

Splitting the middle term appropriately,

=> x ^ 2 + 9x - 2x - 18

Taking out common factors,

=> x ( x + 9 ) - 2 ( x + 9 )

Again taking out common factors,

=> ( x + 9 ) ( x - 2 )

Hence,

The required answer = ( x + 9 ) ( x - 2 )

We can write it as,

x ^ 2 + 7x - 18 = ( x + 9 ) ( x - 2 )
