(x + 4) {}^{2}  = x {}^{2}  + 2xy + y {}^{2}  \\ (x + 4) {}^{2}  = (x + y) {}^{2}  \\ x + 4 = x + y \\ x + 4 - x - y = 0 \\ 4 - y = 0 \\ y = 4
