Answer :-

  • x = 3

  • y = 1

Solution :-

x - y = 2 ..........( 1 )

x + y = 4 ..........( 2 )

  • With the help of equation (1) and (2) we will find the value of x and y

Here , we are using the substitution method for finding the value of x and y

From equation (1)

x = 2+y

  • Now put this value of x in equation (2) to find the value of y

A.T.Q

x+y = 4

(2+y)+y = 4

2y+2 = 4

2y = 4-2

2y = 2

y = 1

  • Now put this value of y in equation (1) to get value of x

x - y = 2

x-1 = 2

x = 2+1

x = 3

So, value of x and y are 3 and 1 respectively

Given

→ x - y = 2        . . . (i)

→ x + y = 4       . . . (ii)

Objective

To solve the given equations for the values of x and y.

Solution

From equation (i), we get :-

x = 2 + y

Putting this value of x in equation (ii) :-

⇒ 2 + y + y = 4

⇒ 2 + 2y = 4

⇒ 2(1 + y) = 4

⇒ 1 + y = 2

⇒ y = 2 - 1

⇒ y = 1

_______________

Now,

x = 2 + y

⇒ x = 2 + 1

⇒ x = 3

Therefore, the value of x is 3 and the value of y is 1.
