Answer:

altitude = 8√3 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

side length of equilateral triangle = 16 cm

length of altitude = ??

Solution

As area of equilateral triangle given by

Area = √3/4 . (side)² -----(i)

also

Area = 1/2 base X altitude------------(ii)

comparing equation (i) and (ii)

√3/4 . (side)² = 1/2 base X altitude

√3/4 . (16)² = 1/2 X 16 X altitude

by solving

altitude = 8√3 cm

Given that : From the Diagram AB = AC = BC = 16cm. and DC = 8cm.

By the Pythagoras theoram :

AC² = AD² + DC²

=> AD² = AC² - DC²

=> AD² = 16² - 8²

=> AD² = 256 - 64

=> AD² = 192

=> AD = √192 = 8√3 cm.

So, the length of the altitude of the equilateral triangle will be 8√3 cm.
