Future population formula:

p_{f}=p_{p}\times (1+i)^{n}

where p_{f} is future population,

p_{p} is present population,

i is growth rate and

n is number of years.

Let us solve a problem using this formula.

Question. The present population of a village is 10000. If the growth rate is 3%, then what will be the population of that village after 2 years?

Solution.

Given, p_{p}=10000, i=3\% and n=2 years.

Then, p_{f}=p_{p}\times (1+i)^{n}

\Rightarrow p_{f}=10000\times (1+\frac{3}{100})^{2}

\Rightarrow p_{f}=10000\times (\frac{103}{100})^{2}

\Rightarrow p_{f}=10000\times \frac{10609}{10000}

\Rightarrow p_{f}=10609

Answer.

Therefore the population of that village after 2 years will be 10609.
