1. The narrator grandfather in the portrait looked like a century old person with a long white beard which ran in a flowing manner. I seemed the grandfather had many grandchildren, but the grandmother was actually too young for him. The grandfather looked odd when compared with the grandmother about his age.

2. The happiest half hour day for her used to be in the afternoon when fed the sparrows. She sat in the verandah to feed the sparrows. She broke the bread into little bits, and threw them to the birds. Hundreds of sparrows collected round her chirping incessantly.

3. The narrator and the grandmother were very good and close friends. Since his childhood, the narrator had seen his grandmother and had adopted the lifestyle of hers. He lived with her and they spent time with each other and became very good friends.

4. The grandmother was short, fat and little bent. She was an old woman. She used to hobble around the house in spotless white clothes by resting one hand on her waist to support or balance her stoop.

5. When the narrator went to the university for higher studies, she became completely isolated and spent her time sitting by her wheel spinning and reciting her prayers. ... Finally, when she realised that her end was near, she lay peacefully in bed praying and her beads.
