THE MECHANISM FOR THE ESTERIFICATION OF ALCOHOLS.

Esterification mechanism : -

THIS Process INVOLVED IN 5 TYPE |

STEP 1 .....

Cation formation :

Step 2 ;-

Delocalized Carbocation :- Carboxyl oxygen gets protonated to give delocalized Carbication making the carbocation better electrophile.

STEP 3 ;-

Transfer of proton : - A proton is transfered to one of the hydroxyl group to form a good leaving group.

Step 4 ;-

Formation of The pi bond - The hydroxy group alcohol oxygen denotes a pair of electrons to a carbon atom which makes a pi bond by eliminating water.

Step 5 ;- Ester formation

1st pic is cation formation

2nd pic is delocalized Carbocation

3rd pic is Transfer of proton

4th pic is formation of the pi bond

5th pic is Ester formation
