Solution :

FIRST METHOD :

Let,

• Present age of father = x years
• Present age of son = y years

According to the question,

⇒ Father's age + Son's age = 75 years

⇒ x + y = 75 ----(1)

According to the condition given,

⇒ Father's age = 5(Age of son)

⇒ x = 3y ----(2)

Taking equation (1) :-

⇒ x + y = 75

⇒ x = 75 - y -----(3)

Substituting equation (3) in (2) :-

⇒ x = 3y

⇒ 75 - 3y = 3y

⇒ 75 = 3y + 3y

⇒ 75 = 6y

⇒ 75/6 = y

⇒ 12.5 = y

Substituting the value of y in equation (1) :-

⇒ x + y = 75

⇒ x + 12.5 = 75

⇒ x = 75 - 12.5

⇒ x = 62.5

Therefore,

• Present age of father = x = 62.5 years
• Present age of son = y = 12.5 years

Let,

• Present age of son = x years
• Present age of father = 5x years

According to the question,

⇒ Father's age + Son's age = 75 years

• Present age of son = x = 12.5 years
