Given :  20 minutes ago it was three times as many minutes  after 9 am

To Find : How many minutes is it before 12 noon

Solution:

Let say its x minutes before 12 noon  

20 minutes ago

three times as many minutes  after 9 am

9 AM  +  3x   +  20   + x   =  12 noon

=> 4x + 20  = 3 hrs

=> 4x + 20  = 180

=> 4x = 160

=> x = 40

its 40 minutes  before 12 noon if 20 minutes ago it was three times as many minutes after 9 am

before 20 mins it was 11 AM  and that is 40 * 3 = 120 mins ( 2hrs) after 9 AM
