Q2: They felt their end was very near because their boat had been badly damaged. Though the narrator had repaired it temporarily, yet there was possibility of another storm. If a huge wave struck the boat again, it would break and drown.
Q3: A huge wave, which was 30 meters high had struck the Wavelwalker, causing a big hole in its portside. As a result of which sea water had come into the boat.
