In a field which is highly acidic we have to neutralize the acid with bases in order to form salt and water.

Therefore, for neutralization the bases can be Slaked lime, Quicklime, lime stone and few other bases.

The reason behind using them in the neutralization process is that they are basic in nature.

They keep the fertility of the soil intact.

✔The soil can be treated with bases such as quick lime (calcium oxide) or slaked lime (calcium hydroxide) to reduce its acidity.

✔These bases react with the excess acid present in the soil and neutralise its acidity. This increases the pH of the soil, which makes it suitable for the growth of various crops.
