The 10th term of an arithmetic sequence is 42 and the 16th term is 60 . Find the first term . ​

a10=42=a1+(10-1)d=a1+9d, 1st equation

a16=60=a1+(16-1)d=a1+15d, 2nd equation

Subtract 1st equation from 2nd, you will get

18=6d, d=3

Put this value of d in any of the above equations, you will get a1=15=1st term
