-28 = a + 11d............(1)
-46 = a + 17d............(2)
subtract equation 1 from equation 2
-18 = 6d
d = -18/6
d = -3
now put the value of d in equation 1
-28 = a + 11*-3
-28 = a -33
a = 33 - 28
a = 5
