Given:

We are given a 3×5 matrix showing the number of sandwiches sold over 5 days

. . . . . . .  M.  T.   W.   T.    F

cheese 50  45  52  47  39

salad     61  44  48  38   51

chicken 53  48  39 42   52

Solution:

First let us have a clarity of the terms  ROW and COLUMN

The horizontal content placed in a matrix is termed as ROW

And the vertical content placed in a matrix is termed as COLUMN

(i)second row shows the number of salad sandwich sold on a particular day

and third column shows the day on which the items were sold

So now the number in second row and third column is 48

∴The number in the second row and third column tells us that 48 salad sandwich were sold on Wednesday

(ii)Third row shows the number of chicken sandwich sold

and fourth column shows the day on which the items were sold

So now the number in third row and fourth column is 42

∴The number in the third row and fourth column tells us that 42 chicken sandwich were sold on Thursday.

(iii)First row shows the number of cheese sandwich sold

and fifth column shows the day on which the items were sold

So now the number in first row and fifth column is 39

∴The number in the first row and fifth column tells us that 39 cheese sandwich were sold on Friday.
