Solution :

The monkeys was skipping in the forests = 8

The number monkeys on the hills screaming = 12

Hence the total number of monkeys

= 12 + 8

= 20

Answer:

Let x be the number of monkeys in the group

Then,

                (x/8)² + 12 = x

Multiplying by 64 we get x² - 64x = -768

Adding (32)² on both sides, we get

     x² - 64x + (32)² = -768 + (32)²

    x² - 64x + 1025  = -768 + 1025

Which implies:  (x - 32)² = 256

So, x-32 = ⁺₋16

Here, 16 < 32

Hence both negative and positive signs have to be taken

So, x = 32 + 16 and x = 32 - 16

Thus, x = 48 or 16

It is a lit bit tricky....
