The ability of the body to resist a disease by natural or artificial means is called IMMUNITY.

"Immunis" (immunity)-Latin word meaning protection

The immunity is divided into three types :

INNATE IMMUNITY :

It is the first line of defense in the human body and

springs into action immediately after an infection begins and does not depend upon the host's prior exposure to the pathogen

It produces interferons / Active NK(natural killer) cells.

ADAPTIVE IMMUNITY :

It is the final line of defense and is most sophisticated and more powerful defense system that operates later in an infection and are highly specific for the pathogen that induced them.

PASSIVE IMMUNITY :

It is a immunity "borrowed" from another source and it lasts for a short time.
