abscissa of the point is the distance from the

Y - axis

a shortcut to find the abscissa is x axis value

is the abscissa of the point.

so if the x axis is positive or negative

abscissa is always positive.

ex: (-4,3) abscissa = +4 units

(5,9) abscissa = 5 units.
