Answer:

Given:

Absolute refractive index of glass = 3/2

Absolute refractive index of water = 4/3

Velocity of light in glass = 2 × 10^8 m/s

To find:

Velocity of light in water and vacuum

Calculation:

Refractive index of glass = (speed in vacuum)/(speed in glass)

=> 3/2 = V /(2 × 10^8)

=> V = 3 × 10^8 m/s.......(vel. in vacuum)

Refractive index of water = (speed in vacuum)/(speed in water)

=> 4/3 = (3 × 10^8)/V"

=> V" = 9/4 × 10^8 m/s

=> V" = 2.25 × 10^8 m/s......(vel. in water)
