Given info : The absolute refractive index of glass is 1.5, velocity of light in water is given 2.8 × 10^8 m/s

To find : the refractive index of water with respect to glass.

solution : refractive index of a medium = velocity of light in vacuum/velocity of light in that medium

so refractive index of water = 3 × 10^8/2.8 × 10^8 = 1.0714

now refractive index of water with respect to glass = refractive index of water/refractive index of glass.

= 1.0714/1.5

≈ 0.71

Therefore the refractive index of water with respect to glass is 0.71
