Refractive index from glass to diamond = 1.7

From diamond to glass = 0.5

Explanation:

Given data:

  • Absolute refractive index of diamond, air (μ) diamond = 8/3
  • Absolute refractive index of glass, air(μ)glass = 3/2

Relative refractive index of diamond w.r.t glass, glassμdiamond is.

g μ d = 8 / 3 ÷ 3 / 2

g μ d = 8 / 3  2 / 3

g μ d = 16 / 9 = 1.7

Refractive index of glass w.e.t diamond:

diamond μ glass = 1 / g μ d = 1 / 1.7 = 0.5
