Actually it varies by the following three :

Changes in the shape of the Earth - We all know that the Earth is not correctly spherical in shape. It is of egg shaped. That's why the Radius or the d varies from the equators to the poles.

Effect of Altitude - The value of g is inversely proportional to the square of the distance from the centre of the Earth as we go up from the Earth, the distance from the centre of the Earth increases and hence the value of g decreases.


Effect of Depth - As we go below the surface of the Earth the acceleration due to gravity goes on decreasing and becomes zero at the centre of the Earth.
