The acid is called Hydrochloric acid.

  • The acid is highly soluble in water, and its solubility, like that of all gases, is proportional to the partial pressure of the gas.
  • It is a solid electrolyte dividing almost entirely into positively and negatively charged ions as it dissolves in water. The former being hydrogen ions, and the latter being chloride ions.
  • It is quite water soluble. The hydrogen chloride can dissolve 400 times its own amount in the liquid.
