The span of Middle Ages or Medieval Period was from the 5th to the 15th century. When the western Roman empire failed to enforce its rule and exercise effective control over its territory , the Roman Empire lost its strengths and ended. It was during this time Medieval Period began. It also merged into the Renaissance that served as cultural bridge between the Middle Ages and modern history and with the Age of Exploration in which period extensive overseas exploration started. The medieval period is further subdivided into the Early, High, and Late Middle Ages.
