In mathematics, the additive inverse of a number a is the number that, when added to a, yields zero. ... For example, the additive inverse of 7 is −7, because 7 + (−7) = 0, and the additive inverse of −0.3 is 0.3, because −0.3 + 0.3 = 0.

Let's know something about additive inverse before knowing the answer!

  • If a is any rational number then there exist a rational number (-a) such that a + (-a) = 0 = (-a) + (a).

  • Alternatively , If (a + b = 0), then b is called negative or additive inverse of a & a is called additive inverse of b.

  • Let's take an example suppose you are give to find additive inverse of rational number : 17/7 So , your answer i.e. additive inverse of 17/7 will be -17/7 & If it was given -17/7 then 17/7 will be your additive inverse! Similarly you can apply for non fractional number as well! [Notice no place is being changed i.e no reciprocal only signs are being changed!]

  • Dont get confused with two terms multiplicative inverse & additive inverse both are different!

The additive Inverse of -970 will be 970.
