In bryophytes the adult plant is a haploid gametophyte just because it is well differentiated into roots ,stems and leaves which is a dominant phase.
in pteridophyte the diploid sporophyte which is a short lived parasite which depends on gametophyte for nutrition and it is also well differentiated into roots ,stems and leaves which is a dominant phase in pteridophyte's cycle.
