Advantages of democracy:
- A democracy is a system of Government that is governed by the doctrine, ‘For the people, of the people and by the people’.
- India is the largest democracy in the world. But living in a democracy has its own advantages and drawbacks.
- To begin with, a democracy ensures its citizens to choose its government. It can oust a government if there is a breach in efficiency.
- Racial discrimination, exploitation is considerably reduced. Economic growth is considerably faster. Chances of armed conflicts is considerably less. Dictatorship is almost absent.
Disadvantages of democracy:
- On the other hand electing a democratic government is an expensive affair. People’s involvement includes only the educated and elite who reap all the benefits.
- The illiterate and poor masses remain in the dark. Wrong policy decisions of the ruling party hamper the growth of the country.
- Sometimes severe damage is caused due to party decisions. Voters are often stranded in taking decisions.
Thus living in a democracy has its own pros and cons.
