Hello Friend,

Here,

Let present age of daughter = x years
Let present age of mother = y years

→ At present, age of mother is twice the square of age of daughter.

So, y = 2x² -----(1)

→ Eight years from now,

Age of daughter = x+8 years
Age of mother = y+8 years

•It is given that at this time, the age of mother will be 4 years more than three times the age of the daughter

So, (y+8) = 3(x+8) + 4
So, y + 8 = 3x + 24 + 4
So, y = 3x + 20 -----(2)

→ Now, we can substitute y = 2x² from (1) into (2)

So, y = 3x + 20
So, 2x² = 3x + 20
So, 2x² - 3x - 20 = 0
So, 2x² - 8x + 5x - 20 = 0
So, 2x(x-4) + 5(x-4) = 0
So, (x-4)(2x+5) = 0

So, x - 4 = 0 or 2x + 5 = 0
So, x = 4 or x = -5/2

But age cannot be negative.

So, x = 4

Putting in (1)
y = 2x²
So, y = 2(4)²
So, y = 2(16)
So, y = 32

→ Thus, present age of daughter = x = 4 years

And, present age of mother = y = 32 years.

Hope it helps.
