Answer:

Let the boy's present age=X

age of the boy=2x

Given that,

(X+4)(2x+4)=160

2x²+4x+8x+16=160

2x²+12x+16-160=0

2x²+12x-144=0

2x²+24x-12x-144=0

2x(X+12)-12(X+12)=0

(X+12)(2x-12)=0

X+12=0

X=-12(ages cannot be negative)

so, 2x-12=0

2x=12

X=12/2

X=6

Therefore age of the boy's brother=6 years

age of the boy=2(6)=12 years
