CorrecT QuestioN :

The age of A is five years more than the age of B. 5 years ago, the ratio of their ages was 3:2. Find their present ages.

ExplanatioN :

Given :-

  • The age of A is five years more than the age of B.
  • 5 years ago, the ratio of their ages was 3:2.

To find :-

  • Find their present ages.

Solution :-

Let the present age of B be x years.

The age of A is five years more than the age of B

Present age of A = (x+5) years.

5 years ago,

• Age of A = (x+5-5) = x years

Age of B = (x-5) years

5 years ago, the ratio of their ages was 3:2

According to the question,

\sf{x\::\:(x-5)=3:2}

\implies\sf{\frac{x}{x-5}=\frac{3}{2}}

\implies\sf{3x-15=2x}

\implies\sf{3x-2x=15}

\implies\sf{x=15}

Present age of B= 15 years.

Present age of A=(15+5)=20 years

Therefore the present age of A is 20 years and the present age of B is 15 years.
