According to the question,

a = 2b/3 ____ ( 1 )

& after 7 years

7(b) = 7(a+6)

i.e, 7b - 7a = 42 ____ ( 2 )

Substitute ( 1 ) in ( 2 )

It becomes,

7b - 7(2b/3) = 42

7b - 14b/3 = 42

(21b - 14b)/3 = 42

7b = 42*3

7b = 126

b = 126/7

b = 18

Now substitute b = 18 in ( 1 )

That is,

a = 2(18)/3

a = 36/3

a = 12

Therefore, the present age of a is 12 & that of be is 18.

Answer:12 and 18

Step-by-step explanation:

According to the question,

a = 2b/3 ____ ( 1 )

& after 7 years

7(b) = 7(a+6)

i.e, 7b - 7a = 42 ____ ( 2 )

Substitute ( 1 ) in ( 2 )

It becomes,

7b - 7(2b/3) = 42

7b - 14b/3 = 42

(21b - 14b)/3 = 42

7b = 42*3

7b = 126

b = 126/7

b = 18

Now substitute b = 18 in ( 1 )

That is,

a = 2(18)/3

a = 36/3

a = 12

Therefore, the present age of a is 12 & that of be is 18.
