Let the son's age be x year,

Then man age's be 4x year.

5 year ago, their ages are (x - 5) years

And (4x - 5) yr, respectively.

(4x - 5) = 9 (x - 5)

= 5x = 40

= x = 8 years

Therefore:

Present age of the man = 4x

= 4 x 8

= 32 Years

• Hence, the present age of the man is 32 years.

Given

  • The age of a man is 4 times of his son.
  • 5 years ago, the man was nine times old as his son was at that time.

Explanation

Let the age of the son be x and the age of the man be 4x Respectively.

  • Son's age be = (x - 5) years
  • Man's age be = (4x - 5) years

 \\ \maltese \ {\pmb{\underline{\sf{ According \ to \ Question: }}}} \\ \\ \colon\implies{\sf{ 9(x-5) = (4x-5) }} \\ \\ \\ \colon\implies{\sf{ 9x - 45 = 4x - 5 }} \\ \\ \\ \colon\implies{\sf{ 9x-4x = -5+45 }} \\ \\ \\ \colon\implies{\sf{ 5x = 40 }} \\ \\ \\ \colon\implies{\sf{ x = \cancel{ \dfrac{40}{5} } }} \\ \\ \\ \colon\implies{\sf{ x = 8 }} \\

Hence,

  • Present age of Son = 8 years
  • Present age of Man = 4×8 = 32 years.
