Answer:

Let present age of son = x year

mother's present age= (2x+ 12)

after 8 years, son's age = (x+8)

and mother's age = (2x+12+8)=(2x+20)

now according to question

2x+20 = 3(x+8)-20

2x+20=3x+24-20

2x+20= 3x+4

3x-2x = 20-4

x=16 years

present age of son is 16 years and mother's age is 2×16+12=44years
