The age of Anjali is five years more than Bharathi. Five years ago,
the ratio of their ages was 3:2. Find their present ages. What will be
their ages after twelve years?

Let the present age of Bharathi be = x yrs. And, the present age of Anjali be = x + 5 yrs.

According to the Question,

Anjali's age before 5 yrs. = x + 5 – 5 = x yrs. And, Bharathi's age before 5 yrs. = x – 5 yrs.

Now, Anjali's : Bharathi's age ratio = 3 : 2, So

  • 3/2 = x/( x – 5 )
  • 3( x – 5 ) = 2x
  • 3x – 15 = 2x
  • 3x – 2x = 15
  • x = 15

So, the present age of Bharathi is = x = 15 yrs. And, the present age of Anjali is = x + 5 = 15 + 5 = 20 yrs.

Now, the ages after twelve yrs. The age of Bharathi after 12 yrs = x + 12 = 15 + 12 = 27 yrs. And, The age of Anjali after 12 yrs = ( x + 5 ) + 12 = 20 + 12 = 32 yrs.
